Daguragu Community Government Council is a local governing body incorporated through the NT Local Government Act. It provides services to residents within a designated area of 43.2 square kilometres and, in particular the communities of Kalkaringi and Daguragu.

The Council has 12 Elected Members with ordinary Council meetings held on a monthly basis. Council elections are conducted every 2 years.

Kalkaringi is situated within a gazetted township area and the land is leasehold under the auspices of the Northern Territory Government. Daguragu community is situated on Aboriginal land held under perpetual title.

The Daguragu Community Government Council has primarily been involved with the provision of local government essential services. These include the maintenance of roads, water, sewerage and housing and the provision of a garbage collection and dump maintenance service. Daguragu Council now provides a wider range of services to its residents. These include:

  • Management of DEWR CDEP program for both communities
  • Management of the Warnkurr Sports and Social Club
  • Management of smaller enterprises e.g. Bakery, Arts and Craft
  • Management of the community housing stock with respect to auditing, repairs and maintenance, and the co-ordination of all types of housing funding (IHANT, IHMMS, NAHS, CHIP)
