About Us / Staff / Staff Recruitment

Staff Recruitment

New employees

A committee of two or more Councillors is required to make decisions about contracting new staff, after which the decision must go to a Council meeting for endorsement. Exceptions to this usually relate to immediate needs to hire casual staff at the Club or in the Housing Services Department to fulfil contractual obligations. However, when hiring casual staff in this way, the CEO/Town Clerk must be approached to organise a meeting of two or more Councillors to gain appropriate approval. Where this cannot be carried out, the hiring information/details can be only approved by the CEO and must be tabled at next Council meeting for endorsement and full explanation.

Contract renewal

Renewal of current employees' contracts must go to a full Council meeting for endorsement.

Relocation costs

Newly recruited staff are reimbursed for recruitment, relocation and minimal freight costs associated with transporting them to Kalkaringi. These costs could take the form of airline tickets, fuel, accommodation costs (if travelling by road) and limited travel allowance. When leaving the community after the successful completion of their contracts, staff are entitled to equivalent relocation costs. However, should staff fail to complete the contract then they would not receive the relocation entitlement. Council would take into account special emergency circumstances of individual staff who are forced to end their contracts early.
